California and Oregon State are still in the hunt for a Pac-10 title, with the loser either officially or unofficially done from entertaining thoughts of playing in the Rose Bowl. The quarterback carousel continues under coach Jeff Tedford. The last one wasn't the coach's fault as starter Kevin Riley suffered a concussion against Oregon, though he did play in USC game. Last week didn't help the confidence of either signal caller; however every quarterback has found that to be true against Trojans defense. On aspect of this Bears team which has not gotten enough props is the defense, which has hung around the Top 30 in total defense all season. They are more physical than your usual California defense and have had a great nose for the ball in the air with 17 picks. They arrive in Corvallis having lost last five games in the second of two consecutive road games, with 1-4 ATS record and are 12-26 ATS when the line is +3 to -3.

One game at a time has been the mantra for Oregon State under head coach Mike Riley. After demolition of UCLA, the Beavers return to Reser Stadium. Oregon State looks to continue typical late season form, having won a minimum of three of last five games of the regular season all but once in the last nine seasons. They are 20-6 ATS at home in weeks 10 through 13. Oregon State is handful to contain offensively, with Quizz Rodgers darting thru the tiniest of holes with his 5'6 frame. Wide receivers Sammie Stroughter is a big time talent, who makes the big catches at the biggest times. Often overlooked, but never underappreciated by the Beavers coaches is wideout Shane Morales, who keeps the chains moving. On defense, Oregon State is back to pressuring the quarterback, with the secondary having come together as a group. With a trend that seems worthless by nature, it's hard to blow off, as Oregon State is 15-3 ATS in next to last home game.

Oregon State is 14-7 ATS versus Cal over the last 24 years; nonetheless a change is afoot with the home team 0-5 SU and ATS. The Bears could be trapped by antediluvian system that is 29-7 ATS, which is to Play Against teams when the line is +3 to -3, off a road cover where the team lost as an underdog, with a winning record on the season.
