The recent trend to committing turnovers has left the Central Florida defense in a hapless position and they have not shown the mental toughness to overcome adversity. The Knights will have to be at the top of their game to win Sunday night at Southern Miss.

UCFs quarterbacks Kyle Israel and Michael Greco have put the defense in bad positions and the defense didn't do enough to stem the tide. This undermines the strength of the UCF which is the running of one the nation's best rusher's in Kevin Smith. 'Fellas ... this is a game of mental toughness. Now is the time you have to step up and be counted,'" Central Florida coach George O'Leary said after South Florida loss.

Back-up signal caller Stephen Reaves strained abdominal muscle is improving week by week and his results are showing it. Reaves was hurting being thrown into uncomfortable spot in loss to Rice. Since then he has played like coach Jeff Bower has expected and been on target. Reaves improved play has opened running lanes for RB Damion Fletcher, who is thrilled not to see eight men in the box. The greatest concern in this game is the Eagles surrendering almost 150 yards on the ground, very unlike Bower coached teams.

Key Trend Central Florida is 3-6 ATS on last game of road-home-road sequence.

These teams represent the first two C-USA East champs and the loser of this battle might be out. If UCF protects the pigskin, they could be in ballgame as Southern Miss is only 1-4 ATS off back to back wins. Prediction Southern Miss by 12
