In a big SEC-rivalry weekend, one of the more unpredictable series

2007-09-14

In a big SEC-rivalry weekend, one of the more unpredictable series’ tees it up again in Tuscaloosa. It seems as if it’s supposed to be a blowout, this game is close, while projected tight contests turn one-sided.

As proof of the unusual series history between Alabama and Arkansas, the favorite is 5-4 SU but just 3-6 ATS in the last nine games. Well, with this one supposed to be close, so I guess we should expect a rout one way or another? Alabama is 2-0 already under Nick Saban, with a pair of comfortable wins under its belt. Arkansas is off a bye week, hoping to snap a 5-game ATS losing skid. The Tide hopes to turn a recent 1-6-1 ATS run at home vs. SEC foes.

Embattled Houston Nutt is just glad to be playing football after a chaotic off-season. What has kept Nutt sane is the running back tandem of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones. Nutt realized as a coach his heart is in the running game and was not ready for new-fangled offense. He has and will pay the price for past deeds, but will field representative team this year.

Alabama fans are an interesting lot, they aren’t just satisfied with winning, they have to do it with style and by large margins with a coach who fits there personality. A new coach (Mike Price) was caught at a strip club and deemed dishonorable, but one who lies to his former employer is considered worthy. Nick Saban will win at Alabama as he will formulate his plan like he has before to bring out the best of his players. This is the first of a trio of tough tilts for the Crimson Tide.

For those wagering, pick the straight up winner and you have an 87.5 percent of being right as the spread winner is 14-2 in this SEC September showdown. Arkansas is only 3-11 ATS in road openers and usually puts a great deal of importance in this contest. Watch for whatever team to do the best job stopping the rush to be eventual winner.
